The creation of 17 kilometres of dedicated bicycle lanes in D Nagar as area-based development will facilitate increased usage of bicycles and improved convenience for other non-motorized transport. The Greater Dahod Corporation (GDC) hopes these will encourage the people of D Nagar (and Dahod, at large) to use bicycles for shorter distances or as a first-/last-mile solution and — when scaled up to major roads in the rest of the city — will create a network of hassle-free lanes for cyclists to utilize.
One of the major initiatives taken by Greater Dahod Corporation under Smart City Project is replacing of existing sodium vapour lamps with LED lights. LED based lighting system has become a popular substitute for low voltage lighting. LEDs are favored over incandescent bulb or CFL as LEDs convert far more of their energy in to light. For instance, substantial amount of energy is wasted as heat in bulbs. Increased efficiency means a drop-in withdrawal from the grid or that batteries will last much longer maintaining the brightness.
While the smart city mission has a large focus on developing public infrastructure, it is also about creating smart citizens who can operate fluidly within this new environment. These citizens can only be made smart if they are educated hand-in-hand with technology. In keeping with that goal, CSCL strives to create a model to equip schools with technology-based digital learning zones for students and teachers to maximize learning outcomes for a smarter future which can be replicated in other schools in the city.
A city isn’t simply an aggregate of the buildings, roads and people. It is a social community which interacts dynamically with social spaces creatively on a regular basis. Nature and greenery is an integral component of the exercise of city-building, which is often consolidated into parks in denser cities. Parks are a public resource as well, often serving recreational purposes like walking, relaxing or socializing. In an increasingly connected digital world, we are tending to disconnect ourselves from the real world. Parks and social recreation spaces assist us to stay connected.
